Tarot
An esoteric art, and my first mystic practice. I've been in the habit of ritual readings for more than 15 years.
Beloved equally by those interested in spirituality and those interested in the sway that archetype holds over the imagination, tarot has broad enough imagery and meaning that by laying out specific cards in a specific spread, you are almost certain to generate novel thoughts, patterns, ideas.
The human mind is a meaning-making machine, and it is a wondrous thing to see what meaning will come when we shuffle at random and generate a story, place cards down sequentially, see what shows up in time and space.
But tarot would not have held my attention if it were merely an imaginative tool. I see it as a channel for communication with something beyond, something that loves to speak to us if we give it opportunity, openings. Call it the collective unconscious if you'd prefer--that way it is not so very distinct from imagination, but it leaves a little bit of room for the uncanny way in which cards seem to spontaneously show up at precise moments, with meaning beyond chance.
I work with the Celtic Cross spread, and am partial to the Golden Tarot deck, though I sometimes work with Aquatic Tarot, or the classic Raider-Waite, or Crowley's Thoth.
